GUIDELINES FOR REPLACING WATER PUMPS
- Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions to remove the belt drive system components.
- The hose attached to the water pump is removed. A large quantity of coolant can pour out while you are doing this.
- The bolts are loosened then the old water pump is removed.
- Clean the mounting surface, after removing the old seal, gasket or sealant.
- Inspect the following before installing the new water pump- coolant hose, thermostat and pressure cap.
- Install the new water pump but be careful not to force the pump in by striking the pump shaft.
- Replace the old gaskets with new ones.
- Follow all installations instructions carefully.
- Apply sealant only if specifically recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Apply sealant as much as needed.
- Wipe off any excess sealant, as too much sealant prevents the correct installation of the water pump.
- Follow the manufacturer’s torque specifications to tighten the bolts. Re-attach the hose.
- Fill the cooling system with the coolant, recommended by the vehicle manufacture.
- Manually rotate the pump. Make sure it rotates freely.
- Since the belt drive system and the water pump work together so it is important to ensure that the belt drive system is in perfect
condition and installed.
- Do a visual inspection for any leaks after the cooling system is refilled.
