GUIDELINES FOR REPLACING WATER PUMPS

  1. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions to remove the belt drive system components.
  2. The hose attached to the water pump is removed. A large quantity of coolant can pour out while you are doing this.
  3. The bolts are loosened then the old water pump is removed.
  4. Clean the mounting surface, after removing the old seal, gasket or sealant.
  5. Inspect the following before installing the new water pump- coolant hose, thermostat and pressure cap.
  6. Install the new water pump but be careful not to force the pump in by striking the pump shaft.
  7. Replace the old gaskets with new ones.
  8. Follow all installations instructions carefully.
  9. Apply sealant only if specifically recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
  10. Apply sealant as much as needed.
  11. Wipe off any excess sealant, as too much sealant prevents the correct installation of the water pump.
  12. Follow the manufacturer’s torque specifications to tighten the bolts. Re-attach the hose.
  13. Fill the cooling system with the coolant, recommended by the vehicle manufacture.
  14. Manually rotate the pump. Make sure it rotates freely.
  15. Since the belt drive system and the water pump work together so it is important to ensure that the belt drive system is in perfect
    condition and installed.
  16. Do a visual inspection for any leaks after the cooling system is refilled.
